In our last article - How Does a Catalytic Converter Work? - we explained what goes on in a typical three-way converter on a gas-powered vehicle. However, diesel-powered vehicles are slightly different. The emissions produced are the same, but there are certain aspects of a diesel engine that require a slightly different approach when it comes to cleaning the exhaust. For a scrap converter buyer, it helps to have an understanding of what each component of a diesel converter does, and how it effects the recycle value. (I apologize in advance for all the three-letter abbreviations contained in this article.) So, for the curious ones out there, I am going to dive a bit deeper into the chemistry that goes on inside of a catalytic converter, and how it turns harmful exhaust fumes into less-harmful emissions. |
