With Legend Smelting and Recycling, science and technology are on your side.

A Data-Driven Industry...

The world of converter recycling has become fiercely competitive in recent years, with the best performers being the ones who have access to the most information. We realize this, and in response we established our own laboratory, located at our headquarters in Ohio. Equipped with state-of-the-art analytical instruments, and staffed by a team of trained chemists; you can rest assured that our laboratory is generating accurate and reliable data which we, along with our suppliers, can use to make educated and informed decisions when buying or selling converters.

Capabilities:

  • Sampling
Sampling is an integral part of the testing process. In order to get an accurate analysis, a representative sample needs to be taken. We make use of mills, blenders, and sample reducers in order to achieve this.
  • XRF
X-Ray Fluorescence is a fast and easy way to determine the metal content of a solid sample. However, XRF has limitations due to the impurities found in converter material. Because of this, we use XRF for quality control purposes only.
  • Industry-Standard Testing Methods
Each sample is prepared according to tried-and-tested methods used throughout the mining and precious metals industry, and all results are verified using multiple quality controls.
  • ICP-OES
The sample is dissolved in acid and injected into a plasma flame. The light from the flame is analyzed and tells us the exact amount of platinum, palladium, and rhodium that the material contains.
